About Us
Space to think, create, show

Our Story
We are a boat gallery based on a secluded canal mooring with a sculpture garden in Kings Cross. We help emerging artists of all genres (visual art, film, performance, music, spoken word) to display their works and talents through cross-arts events and festivals. We often work with other boats and can site the boat in a variety of places. The canal and boat(s) are the blank canvas for the events - we show both indoors and outdoors (on the roof, in the water, from trees, etc) wherever we can that inspires the artist and the viewer. We like to be experimental, contemporary, and, where we can, to be socially or environmentally engaged. We mainly operate from April-October on weekends, though are able to do smaller indoor events in the winter. Most of our work is non-commercial – we do not seek to make a profit, but rather provide new talented artists with free space to exhibit, and to give our audiences exciting new events on the canal backdrop. Our events are generally free of charge.
With:
We support emerging and outsider artists across all disciplines—including visual art, film, dance, music, and spoken word—by creating opportunities to develop and present your work through crossarts events and festivals. We used a variety of spaces, including our own gallery on a canal boat in King’s Cross, which we often transformed into an unconventional exhibition and performance space. The canal and boat are the blank canvas for the events - we show both indoors and outdoors (on the roof, in the water, from trees, etc) wherever we can that inspires the artist and the viewer. We like to be experimental, contemporary. We do not seek to make a profit, but rather provide new talented artists with space to exhibit. Sometimes we need to charge our artists and/or audiences if, for instance, we hire a venue, but, more often than not, our events are free.
Our programme is experimental, contemporary. Since 2020, we have produced more than 35 exhibitions and 5 festivals, and supported over 600 artists. A selected list of our exhibitions can be found below.
In 2022 we expanded Slash Arts’ mission to champion neurodivergent ‘outsider’ artists and writers, creating a platform where their voices, practices, and perspectives can be recognised and supported. We have been working on two programmes we created - working with the mentally ill at the Instituto Sao Joao de Deus Psychiatric Hospital near Sintra, Portugal. The other working with the Killick Street Health Centre in London, N1 working with dementia and autistic patients among others.
